Electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG)

An Electrocardiogram, is often called an EKG or an ECG. It is among the most common and basic tests to establish heart function and to help evaluate cardiovascular diseases.

What is it like to get an EKG test?

An electrocardiogram is a painless test used to quickly detect heart problems and monitor your heart's health. When the EKG stickers are removed, there may be some minor discomfort.

What will an EKG detect?

The test reveals your cardiac rhythm (heartbeat) and can identify a range of heart health issues, including heart attack, narrowed or blocked arteries, heartbeat irregularities, and other conditions affecting the cardiovascular system.

Preparing for your EKG — What do you need to do?

There is very little preparation for an EKG test. On the day of your test, do not put any oils or creams on your skin, and wear a shirt or top that can easily be opened or removed for the placement of the electrodes. The test takes only minutes and is painless.
